The City of Roses!
Today was quite a busy day! We woke up this morning to get fresh bread from the local grocery store, Netto. Yum yum! I then went to talk with Mario at 10am. He is such a hilarious guy! Today we talked about German history and school systems. We spoke about the birth of Jesus and the importance of Mary and Joseph being in Bethlehem. He really loves talking about America and is extremely excited about visiting one day. I then talked with Feri about God’s wrath (Romans 1:18-23) and how both his anger and his love can be seen in creation. He is so interested in showing us around downtown Hildesheim and learning about our lives. At 12pm I talked with Woo-Jeong about her Catholic church and school. She knows a lot about the Bible and we had a long talk about the angel coming to Mary and telling her that she will become pregnant with Jesus. During our lunch break we went to speak with Susan’s 5th grade class. They were very shy, but they asked us many questions about our favorites and the differences between America and Germany. Susan than took us on a short tour of the historical district of Hildesheim (the part that did not get bombed in WWII). We found out that Hildesheim is know as the city of roses because there is a 1,000 year old white rose bush in the center of the town. I came back and helped an 8th grade boy, Demeter, with his report on Nelson Mandela. He was reading some very hard material. News articles that I might use in a report, but they were for an 8th grade English class. I was highly impressed. I then met with a new reader, Euby. She came with her brother, Samuel, and her mother, Gudreun. They all signed up to read today and are coming again on Monday afternoon! I then met with Jasmin. She is a beautiful young woman who has an amazing heart! She is in love with her religion class in school and she explains what she learns in it each day that she comes! She is also really on fire to go on mission projects to India and Africa! We talked of the story about the adulterous woman being stoned and she had some great insight into how Jesus’ teachings supported those of the Old Testament. It still amazes me that God can start such amazing conversations with so little prompting from us.
Sam and I made tacos for dinner and they were delicious!! Just a small taste of Mexican food that we are all missing :) Some other exciting news: On top of the family of 3 that came in today for the first time, another man, Andreas, called into the church today to set up a reading session with Monique tomorrow morning.
Please keep praying for all of our readers, new and old. God is doing great work here and we hope He continues!
